## Description

A powerful workshop-in-a-book for healing from loss One day everything is fine. The next, you find yourself without everything you took for granted. Love has turned sour. The people you depended on have let you down. You feel you’ll never love again. But there is a way out. In The Abandonment Recovery Workbook, psychotherapist and abandonment expert Susan Anderson explores the seemingly endless pain of heartbreak and shows readers how to break free—whether the heartbreak comes from divorce, a breakup, a death, or the loss of friendship, health, a job, or a dream. The Abandonment Recovery Workbook provides an itinerary for recovery. A manual for individual or support group use, it includes exercises that the author has tested and developed through her years of expertise in abandonment recovery. Anderson provides concrete recovery tools and exercises to discover and heal underlying issues, identify self-defeating behaviors of mistrust and insecurity, and build self-esteem. Guiding you through the five stages of your journey—shattering, withdrawal, internalizing, rage, and lifting—this book (a new edition of Anderson’s Journey from Heartbreak to Connection ) serves as as a source of strength. You will come away with a new sense of self—a self with an increased capacity to love.

Review: Great even if it wasn't a lover who left - This book is amazing! My case is different from most, though. I have been abandoned by three siblings since my parents died. They just won't communicate with me and I fear we'll never have a good relationship again. The book has practical advice for the real pain you're experiencing. The questions are so helpful and the advice is rock solid. You have lots of room to journal and express your feelings. My only difficulty was going back to when I was 5 years old. Goodness, I'm 61 and that was so many years ago it was hard to remember how I felt back then.
Review: Wonderful! - I am very grateful to have found this book. I suffered a very abrupt termination of therapy 4 months ago, via E-mail. I had been going to therapy for over 2 years because of divorce from a narcissistic spouse. The therapist was working at the community college I started attending and I reached out for help. He was everything a narcissist is not and I developed transference that he failed to set safe and appropriate boundaries for, blamed me and fired me. My father was a narcissist, my two brothers and my former spouse. I have tried therapy with multiple people after the termination. However, I have found that it takes a real seasoned and knowledgeable therapist to understand how injurious an improper termination of therapy is for a client. Thank you for this book. I have already ordered more books written by this author.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy for practice

I use this book to structure my work with people whose primary clinical issue is abandonment and it works wonderfully! The content is written with easy-to-understand language for my clients (not packed with clinical jargon) so they can be successful at homework assignments, and yet it is challenging enough that we work on it together. I would not recommend this book for "self help" as I have found the content does require processing with a therapist. There are snags along the way as issues arise and deeper traumas surface, so I would not use this independently. Great product. I would like to see it in spiral bound.
