Hand wash only for lasting beauty. ## Description The history of Ebony being used in carved furniture can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians. We have created a similar rich lustrous look on our wooden bowls by using a process called "Ebonizing". The ebonizing solution is made from two common products, vinegar and steel wool. The steel wool is soaked overnight in a plastic container filled with vinegar, creating an "iron solution". When this solution is applied to the bowl, it reacts immediately turning the Red Oak into a rich dark Navy Blue color. Ebonizing is a safe, easy way to create beautiful bowls with originality and character. This beautiful solid Ebonized Red Oak bowl was turned by the craftsmen at the Holland Bowl Mill, which is the oldest and last commercial wooden bowl mill operating in the United States. Bee's Oil finished chopping bowl set comes with a 12-inch Ebonized Red Oak Chopping Bowl and Maple Mezzaluna Knife. The set is great for chopping garlic, herbs and vegetables.
