I have to say that one that I rec'd was accurate and for the issue of reading it, if you're too far back from anything it is going to be harder to read. I have mine mounted in my horse barn and I can read it from a distance. I used the screws that came with it even though I had longer screws and the original ones worked well, keeping in mind that it is in a barn and no doubt will be bumped by people or horses, I have no issues. I was more than pleased with the size of it as I wanted something larger. In the last week we had a wide swing in temperature ranging from -10c to +8 and it is accurate. Review: Accurate - Got two of these. One is mounted about four feet outside the back door. It is hard to read because where it had to be mounted is not directly in front of the door window but about 25-30 degrees off to the side of the viewing area. It’s easy to see and read as long as one is standing exactly directly in front of it. A large ancient certified professional mercury thermometer was retrieved from its hallowed box in its sacred storage trunk and used to test these humble plastic and glass contraptions and they are both surprisingly accurate and consistent with each other. I’m happy I can actually see them without having to almost put my nose to them, and I do love having simple analog devices instead of ever more battery powered digital stuff. These thermometers come in simple cardboard boxes with no padding or protection whatsoever, and they were both tossed in a huge desertcart box (with two rain gauges) with no air bag padding or packing whatsoever. Usually I get everything, even pillows, thoroughly and tightly stuffed into boxes with little air bags; in this case, not a single little airbag was used, and this shipment could definitely have used much better packing - guess I was just plain lucky that none of the thermometers broke. ## Features - Waterproof ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B00WNEJCBE | | Age Range (Description) | Adult | | Age Range Description | Adult | | Brand | Marathon | | Brand Name | Marathon | | Country of Origin | USA | | Customer Reviews | 4.2 out of 5 stars 4,478 Reviews | | Display Type | Analog | | Included Components | Thermometer | | Item Weight | 0.22 Pounds | | Manufacturer | Marathon | | Model Number | FBA_BA030001 | | Outer Material | Glass | | Outer Material Type | Glass | | Part Number | FBA_BA030001 | | Power Source Type | बटरी सचालित | | Product Care Instructions | Wipe Clean | | Response Time | 500 Milliseconds | | Reusability | Reusable | | Special Feature | Waterproof | | Special Features | Waterproof | | Specification Met | CE | | UPC | 063442210024 | | Unit Count | 1.0 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Marathon - **Special Feature:** Waterproof - **Age Range (Description):** Adult - **Included Components:** Thermometer - **Outer Material:** Glass ## Images ![1 : MARATHON BA030001 Vertical Outdoor Thermometer - 16-Inch - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51ZoiUh-iyL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Does this work in all-day direct sun? I want to get one for the shade, and one for the sun.** A: You should never, ever put a thermometer in direct sunlight. You are then trying to measure the temperature of the sun, and you could ruin the thermometer. Outdoor temperature always refers to the temperature of the air, which can only be measured in in the shade. **Q: Can the temperture be seen at an angle or do you have to be directly in front of the thermometer to see what the reading is?** A: You might be able to see it from a slight angle, but it's best to be directly in front of it. Unfortunately, the thermometer they sent me is consistently under-reporting the temp by 12 to 13 degrees. I tried everything I could think of to remedy the situation, but to no avail. I will be putting mine in the trash. **Q: how can tempeerature be adjusted when it is off quite a bit from actual weather?** A: It cant. One of mine was over 10 degrees off, I thought I could just slide the glass thermometer tube up or down to correspond with the correct number, but it is glued in place. I think trying to move it would just end up breaking it. **Q: How do I get it sent to me? Says undeliverable due to hazardous material?** A: It was delivered to me all right. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good - More than pleased *by M***A on 30 January 2020* I read all of the reviews including the negative ones before purchasing one. Its big, and clear, but like all thermometers of this type, have a narrow field of view where the tiny red line is magnified by the glass to be clear and wide. That is you have to view it from just the right spot for it to be clear. The exaggerated height is good for resolution, but its no good if you cant see the red line at all. So looking across a deck, its unlikely you will be able to see the red line at all because you are not in 'just the right place'. You really still need to walk right up to it to read the temperature. If its functionality you want, get a digital one (for accuracy of +/- 1 deg) or a circular one for clarity at a distance. This giant thermometer is more about looks than functionality. If you think its not accurate you can slide the glass thermometer part up or down in the plastic housing to make it read what you think it should be at the specific temperature at that moment - no guarantees it will be correct when the temp changes by 10 deg. ## Frequently Bought Together - MARATHON BA030001 Vertical Outdoor Thermometer - 16-Inch - Springfield Indoor Outdoor Big and Bold Dial Thermometer, Wireless Thermometer with Easy to Read Large Numbers for Patio, Pool, and Indoor Areas, 8-Inch, White - ThermoPro TP49 Digital Hygrometer Indoor Thermometer Humidity Meter Room Thermometer with Temperature and Humidity Monitor Mini Hygrometer Thermometer --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.hr/products/347272912-1-marathon-ba030001-vertical-outdoor-thermometer-16-inch](https://www.desertcart.hr/products/347272912-1-marathon-ba030001-vertical-outdoor-thermometer-16-inch) --- *Product available on Desertcart Croatia* *Store origin: HR* *Last updated: 2026-10-18*
