I was making a replacement cross slide lead screw for my metal lathe. I roughened the machined mating surfaces for a little better grip and used nothing but the Loctite 603 to bond the portion of the lead screw that I made to a piece of commercially produced Acme thread rod. The stub on the Acme threaded rod extended about 1.25" into the socket. It sat for about 48 hours before I used it; only because I was busy with other things. It has been in service for 2-1/2 months and if it hasn't failed yet it probably never will. I've pushed it pretty hard with material removal and knurling operations.
