## Description

Aogami Hagane means "blue steel" and is more complex steel than Shirogami Hagane or "white steel". Edge tools made from "blue steel" give the most durable edge possible, particularly in hard, abrasive woods such as teak and exotic hardwoods.  Each Blue Steel Bench Chisels forge-welded by hand from a combination of special Hitachi "blue steel" and wrought iron. After curing in charcoal for several days, they are then individually tempered to Rockwell c65. Every Blue Steel Bench Chisel is made one at a time by Master of Blacksmiths Matsumura,with his wife occasionally assisting with the heavy sledge. Over 40 separate processes are required to complete each chisel. The handles are hand-turned from the best quality Japanese Red Oak known for its dense, tough, long lasting qualities. Hand-forged hammered iron hoops are fitted to the handles. Each chisel comes fully sharpened.
