I would not use for long very cold hikes; however, walking on snow isn't always very cold. I've crossed snowfields and glaciers in Wyoming in these in the summer and they were perfect. The higher air temperature compensated. The cold comes in from the uppers, not from below. But using these when clearing snow off my driveway in 20f temps left my feet really chilly after 45 minutes. This lighter insulation works nicely in the summer because they are relatively cool for waterproof backpacking boots when out on a hot day. **Q: Hi.
