I always made sure I had reserved enough of my baby sitting money to buy the next book as soon as it became available. A recent move left me digging thru a box of old books looking for something to read when I came across the old series. I thought it might be fun to read them again all these years later. What fun it has been rediscovering Trixie, Honey and all the other characters! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Trixie Belden -- a childhood favorite *by P***P on Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2013* Trixie Belden was created by Julie Campbell in the 50s. Her stories reflect a time and lifestyle that has long-since disappeared from mainstream America.The series opener, The Secret of the Mansion, opens at the start of the summer. Trixie has her heart set on buying a colt she saw at a horse show. With her older brothers away at camp, Trixie has an opportunity to earn horse money by helping her mother at the Belden farm, with chores and babysitting her little brother Bobby.As she works with Moms in the garden, complaining about how unfair it all is...her mother tells Trixie that that morning, her father found a neighbor of theirs, Mr. Frayne, unconscious on his driveway and took him to the hospital. As they discuss Mr. Frayne's condition, Trixie then notices there are moving vans up at The Manor House, another large estate next to the Belden farm. Moms suggests that Trixie take Bobby to the Manor House where she can introduce herself to the new residents.When Trixie arrives, she finds that the new occupants, the Wheelers, have a daughter of about her age -- Honey. Despite different life experiences, the girls become fast friends. Trixie is even more pleased to find that the Wheelers keep five horses who are tended to by good-natured Reagan, who agrees to teach Trixie how to ride.It isn't long before the girls go off exploring on horseback and discover that there is a mysterious trespasser at the Frayne's house. Who is it and ... what does the trespasser want?The cover art for this edition is not bad, although it depicts the girls inside the mansion, instead of outside as they were in the original.Trixie Belden is one of the very best girls' series, particularly the first six books, written by the creator, Julie Campbell.
