I have two cats that are diabetic and these strips saved one of their lives. He was acting funny. Checked his glucose and it was 34. Gave food and sugar and kept checking, I still took my little guy in to the hospital but I have never had a problem using these. Never got an error code on a new strip. Make sure your hands are completely dry and when you use the strip to get enough blood on it before it times out or you will have to use a new one. These may be pricey compared to other ones, but seriously...diabetes is a serious condition so why chance it. Review: Pricey but worth it! - For the most part they are easy to use but at times will have some that read Error. My only complaint is the price. I probably buy 3 boxes a month so it’s pretty pricey. It’s one of those I got to have it so what do you do things! I’m thankful for the product though, a human monitor is not accurate at all trust me I tried. So they last a while **Q: Why is there such a fluctutation in pricing for alpha trak 2 lancets and the test strips?** A: Because the lancet is just a sharp pointed metal piece that doesn’t cost very much to produce. The test strips contain intellectual property and cost more to produce. So they cost more to buy. That’s how they make a profit. **Q: Can i use the same test strips on the alpha trak from abbott?** A: I noticed the blue 28 gauge alphatrak lancets looked exactly like freestyle lancets for humans. I called zoetus and they told me the lancets are the exact same. Both from Abbott. The freestyle are available from Amazon and much cheaper than alphatrak ones. You can’t use human meter Orr test strips but the lancets just prick the skin. **Q: I ordered this for my cat which usually uses 37 but the lable said 38. What is going on?** A: They switch codes sometimes I will get ones that say 38 for a while then I will get some that say 7 You just need to RESET YOUR CODE, to do this you stick one of the 38 labeled test strips into the meter like your going to do a test and let it come on when the number 37 appears *which I'm assuming that is what you were using use the C and M button to go up or down until your code is at the number 38 then take the test strip out and use it again when you go to take his/her blood. They are expensive but require less blood than human meters (which are JUST as accurate). In the 4 years of using these we have only had one package come defective and when we called Zoetis they replaced the strips for free.
