It does not balance when vertical/portrait. When I want it portrait, I tip it up against something. **Q: Does this case offer any screen protection?** A: Nope, just a fold over case. My daughter loves it and it fits well. With these newer screens however, I don't think screen protectors are really necessary. :) **Q: Can a screen protector fit with this case?** A: I think so!
