The SURFboard SBG8300 is a DOCSIS 3.1 Wi-Fi cable modem, the latest standard offered by cable internet providers. It's capable of bonding up to 32 downstream and 8 upstream DOCSIS 3.0 channels or 2 x 2 OFDM DOCSIS 3.1 channels, providing increased bandwidth for true gigabit speed capability. Review: Great tech support, quality product. - Great way to save the lease fee Comcast wants to charge. Works great with XFinity Internet. Setup was a breeze. I did have an issue with my wi-fi printers dropping out. I would have to restart my desktop computer for them to connect again. I called Tech support, the gentleman was very knowledgeable and resolved the issue with a setting in the admin section. Printers have not dropped out since.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it compatable/approved with/for Xfinity?**
A: The Arris S33 Docsis 3.1 modem is currently only compatible with the 1.2GBPS Internet Plan with Xfinity but they say they are working on support for their Gig 2X plan that allows 2GBPS download and 400mbps upload at the moment, but this internet plan is not available yet for 3rd party modems. You have to rent their modem monthly to use the Gig 2X plan right now. They do not have a timeline yet, but I believe that the firmware update from Xfinity will be available VERY soon so that "MidSplit" works with their service. The Arris S33 modem IS compatible with MidSplit...Xfinity just needs to finish testing for third party modems and send a firmware update to existing customers so they can take advantage of the MidSplit feature and get 2GBPS internet without having to rent their shoddy equipment.

**Q: What is the Warranty**
A: ARRIS offers a 2 year limited warranty on new models, 1 year for refurbished products.

**Q: was the Mac address release from previous device owner account? What happens if not?**
A: It depends on the backend provisioning system of your internet service provider. Ideally, you should be able to use a used/refurb device provided the service provider's provisioning system automatically removes the previous owner's information from the device

**Q: When does the certificate expire?**
A: The DOCSIS certificate. It's rated as 3.1. Comcast is expiring the ones that are 3.0. So I think this one should be good until the next security upgrade in a few years. Hard to say for sure. My Zoom is 3.0 and it was made back in 2014. Only just now being "expired."

Great way to save the lease fee Comcast wants to charge. Works great with XFinity Internet. Setup was a breeze. I did have an issue with my wi-fi printers dropping out. I would have to restart my desktop computer for them to connect again. I called Tech support, the gentleman was very knowledgeable and resolved the issue with a setting in the admin section. Fast service

Day one. I could not get the Arris application to connect it would not find the wi-fi signals, the instructions in the box gave me the wrong IP/address to access the settings, I should have used the old one. I called tech support, they spoke English with heavy accent that was a barrier, just a barrier not a complaint. Reset the modem redownload the app, still nothing. Then he gave me the correct IP/address and it worked right away. Why was this incorrect on the instructions int he box. Got it set up in a few minutes after that. The setting interface is not super intuitive but it's cleaner and better than the past interface. However every time I connect the setting for the modem it tells me the version of Chrome is old and may have trouble with some settings. I checked, nope Chrome is the newest version and apparently the setting menu is set to run off an older version, but it still works haven't found any issues. Back to the app. It sucks. You not only have to download one app but two apps. The second app changes your login from admin to your email. Thats a nice touch however I have had to go through the whole process of setting up the app each time and if it works it throws me back to the other app. I don't understand the reasoning for this. Either way I am hoping this has better connection and speeds looks like it is working once I called my internet provider, Sparklight does work with it. Should have been easier with all the "convenience" options starting with the correct IP/address.
