Sometimes the issue is fitting into a tight place or a connection (here USB-C female) that is "in a well", that is, recessed. A single piece USB-A female to USB-C male adapter might be too wide and obstruct access to an adjacent USB-C female port on a device or not fit into a recessed USB-C female port. This short-corded adapter fits in either situation.Other times the single piece adapter is a mechanical lever that can be accidentally knocked or torqued, damaging the adapter and the USB-C female port it is plugged into.
