*Method 3: Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.(Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10)
You can run the Windows Hardware and Devices troubleshooter which is built-in to Microsoft Windows. The Hardware and Devices troubleshooter is available in Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 & Windows 10 only.
If the optical drive is recognized by the computer, the product problem you encounter may be caused by the following two reasons:
1. The power supply of the product is insufficient - Please use a 5V charger / power bank supply to supplement it.

**Q: Every dvd i have tried will not play..  anyone else have this problem and perhaps a solution?**

This external dvd drive will not play dvds in the following 3 situations:
1.Equipment: Only compatible with WINDOWS and OS operating system laptops and desktops (not compatible with mobile phones, tablets, cars, projectors, TVs, Microsoft surface, chrombook, Blu-ray discs, etc.).
2.Region code: Every disc has its region code. If the region code of the drive does not match the disk, the dvd maynot be played (our usb cd drive provides the function to change the region code, if your dvd is from Mexico, Then just set the region code of the drive to #4).
3.Insufficient power supply: Because our optical drive adopts USB3.0 technology, although its data transmission speed is faster than USB2.0, USB3.0 has higher requirements for the power supply capability of the USB interface (USB 3.0 requires the interface power supply capacity to be 1A, And USB 2.0 is only 0.5A.)
Our optical drive additionally comes with a typle c charging port and an extra usb c cable that included in the package, they can provide extra current for the optical drive to ensure that the device can read the disc normally.

A: It is used to provide additional power for this cd burner by being connected to power bank or adapter. When the USB port of some laptops has insufficient output power, this device will not work properly

I had X-rays done on my neck and when I asked for a copy of the scans, they handed me a CD. That’s when I remembered that most PCs don’t come with CD/DVD drives anymore — at least none of mine did.I ordered this external drive so I could access the disc, and it worked great right out of the box. It read the CD without any issues and did exactly what I needed it to do.The delivery was also excellent. It showed up the following morning, which was perfect because I needed to get into those files quickly.Overall, this is a handy little drive to have around, especially for situations like medical records, older software, backup discs, or anything else that still shows up on a CD or DVD.

Seems to be a good unit so far. I purchased this to RIP DVD;s, have not tried as a Burner yet, and not sure that I will. This is a very high quality unit that seems to be sufficiently fast and is very compatible and easy to use. Has Standard storage of any CD or DVD, so the storage is the same. Unit functions well in Burning as well as Play Back. No Compatibility issues and I have not tried the playback issues yet!

So far it works well to download files but seems slow and stops if you try to download a whole DVD. If you download a only a few folders at a time, it is very fast. I have not yet tried to burn any CDs or DVDs, but I'm hopeful. A longer cable to connect the drive to the desktop would be useful. Having cable storage is nice for transportation with my laptop .
