Then, rented an axle removal tool saved a lot of sweat, frustration, and swearing; it was out in less than 5 minutes. If you want to buy, tool cost ~$70. Threaded nut onto axle bolt to help hammer it, it almost stripped the acle bolt's thread so be aware of weaker material here. Install was otherwise uneventful.
