It worked perfectly for that! When I drain the spa there is about 4-5" of standing water at the bottom of the spa. I lowered this pump into it with the hose attached and it immediately kicked on! The pump didn't completely pump out all of the water. It has a sensor that stops it when it had about 1/2" remaining. I wished it would have pumped out more, but even that much saved me a lot of work. This was a great purchase! Review: Cheaply made - Installed a few months ago, pump worked fine for first 2 rains then stopped being able to pump out water (could just be the way I have it setup). Big issue is that after only 5 rains the propeller broke at the shaft making the prop unable to spin. After pulling the pump apart the only thing holdings the prop on the shaft was a small 1/16 by 1/8 piece of plastic.
