I replaced this with my preference. An excellent pencil for sharp, clear lines. **Q: What is the difference between this (PG1013) and the PG1013E?** A: I think they are same. PG1013 is for selling in Japan. PG1013E(Maybe, E means for English persons) is for selling in the US. **Q: how do you refill leads into it?** A: Pull off the end cap that exposes the eraser, then put out the eraser and drop the lead into the opening. **Q: why does it NOT accept new lead? what am i doing wrong when trying to add new lead that was made for it?** A: Hello. The Pentel Graphgear 1000 comes in a variety of lead sizes. .3,.4..5,.7 and .9 mm. Please make sure you have the correct size for the pencil you have. Once you do, I load the lead from the top by removing the cap, then the eraser. Lastly, I drop a piece of lead inside of it. I work the action until the new piece has gone through and ready to write/draw. I then place a few more into the top and put the eraser and cap back on. I hope it works for you, because this is a very nice mechanical pencil. If not, then I would resort to the other suggestions, which I have never had to do with this mechanical pencil, but I have on many others. A nice sturdy pen that is great for drafting and fun to use. It’s got a good heft to it and is well made and fairly comfortable for writing (though technically it’s made for drafting). A very good value pencil! I did have one snap when I dropped it.
