These are basic but sturdy and work ! Not a humane trap apart from hopefully catching them in the right place and being quick to deal their blow ! but you have to deal with them as best you can and we do not like using poison in the gardens. We've had other versions in the past , plus the newer plasic versions but these are much better. Good strong action . Very basic build but a build that works . Please ensure that you place them in a hidden location so that domestic pets , or children cannot reach them . I have given them 4 out of 5 only because as yet they havent caught anything but am confident that they will work when required . ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very effective with slight modification *by C***O on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 11, 2019* These 'old fashioned' traps are far better than modern plastic ones. To start with the spring is much stronger and will kill large rats where newer models do not. However when I loaded a blob of peanut butter on the bait plate I found the trap was far too sensitive and released with the slightest movement. So in order to correct this I made a slight alteration to the holding wire (which goes through the hole on the bait plate) by bending the wire slightly upwards at the end using a pair of pliers. The traps now work really well and do not release too early. Bye bye rats! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rats banging about in loft after trap went off, then quiet...so far. *by B***T on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 26, 2015* Difficult to set if your peanut butter is very oily like the organic ones sometimes are, had to keep wiping the thing. In the loft, we had rat pellets and eaten flour with rat holes in the bags and flour mess. We had put food up there as we bulk buy. We had also heard rats and gnawing from the loft and in other areas of the house, especially by next doors party wall. After hearing particularly loud gnawing from downstairs!!!, we pulled the loft ladder down and stuck two traps in the appropriate region of the loft. Less than an hour later, I heard rapid thumping from the loft for about a minute and after another hour, I heard the same kind of thumping from the loft again. ~A day later and I have still not opened the door to the loft as I think the trap and mangled rat may fall out on me. When the old man comes back, in a few days, he can do that job. He suggested I hold up an umbrella over him whilst he opens the rat loft.
