Ideas please** A: Dough should be cold after rolling out. Then us cookie roller. You can make cookie icing and apply with a very small paint brush. Lot of work but worth it. **Q: Is there a special kind of dough you need to use? I did shortbread and they didn't come out very good** A: Dough has to be cold. Roll out to almost thickness you need. Refrigerator again then roll on with print rolling pin. Cut shapes and if dough has softened to much get cold again then bake. **Q: Has anyone tried this for pasta? Thinking about lasagne or ravioli.** A: Has to be a certain dough. For pasta it might but would just have to try it and press hard to imprint **Q: Is there a trick to using this? Mine didn't come out very good.** A: Sugar cookie dough is best and it needs cold. Make dough and roll or pat out to a circle. Put it in fridge for 1/2 hr. Roll out making it not to thin but leaving room to roll thinner pressing firmly with your cookie rolling pin. If it helps make smaller round of dough to roll out. Important dough is cold when putting in over. Will hold dedigh better. The quality of the rolling pin is fantastic. The baker needs to treat the cutout areas with respect and care, but that is the same for any embossed brand of pin. The wood is rugged yet soft enough not to be brittle. The use of the rolling pin is simple, and, as expected, the dough needs to be well-floured or powder-sugared to avoid sticking. The dough recipe must not have leavening agents - like a butter cookie shortbread; if the cookie rises you will lose the cutout print. The learning process to get a good imprint takes some time and practice, but once you know how hard you have to press, the process goes quickly, and the print comes out perfectly. I purchased scalloped square cutters to cut around the imprints, but using a knife or another type of cutter would do. Cleaning, I learned that when the dough is properly "floured" it doesn't attach itself to the imprints, but you will have some get into the grooved areas. I found the best way to clean it is to let it dry and take a hard brush/toothbrush and brush it clean.
