But from the tiny photo, it was hard to judge what it really looked like. I took the chance that it might be a flimsy poorly painted import. I got it yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. It is absolutely top notch. The detail in the feathers is excellent, it's hard for me to look at this as a toy. The painting on it is superb, especially at the transition from the white head to the brown body. It is perfect. The plastic is not that hard brittle kind that you know will shatter if it hits the floor. It feels quite durable. It far exceeded my expectations, I will order more as gifts. The only negative is not with the eagle, but with the packaging. It is really cheesy looking. So any I get for gifts I'll remove the packaging, and put it in a nice box with tissue paper. It will make this 5 dollar "toy" look like a 25 dollar desk ornament! I've seen all the disappointed reviews for the colored birds, where you don't have a choice as to the color you'll get. One would be lucky to hold a 16 y.o attention for more than 3 minutes. **Q: Is there any way to fix the balancing eagle if it is slightly off-balance? It's left wing hangs about .5-1 inch lower than the right wing.** A: The balance is caused by 2 odd-shaped magnets located in the front wing tips. I don't know if you have two different sized or different weights of magnets or if one or both of the magnets slipped backwards. I think I would try to figure out if either one slipped before I opened up the eagle so you might be able to shake the offending magnet back into place. If you opt to open the bird, it has small tabs on the top edges that are glued into small holes on the bottom edges. If you do try to separate the halves, be careful that you don't warp the plastic when you take it apart. How do I know these things? Balanced very well, my 1 year old can balance it, and it comes with a stand. 3. Realistic looking for what is is. 4. Excellent price 5. Educational Cons 1. Made of plastic, what you should expect for the price. I prefer things made of metal. 2. Somewhat not scaled properly. Wings are a bit big for the body size of the bird.
