Tighten them down and they stay put. It has a slide tray with two screws (you select the one that fits your camera or in my case my scope). It releases from the tripod by pushing a button and pullilng the tray out or put it back in. I really like the leg adjustments on this unit. There are two extensions on each leg and they are quick to adjust and stay put when tight. Good unit.
