For cleaning, it has such a clean line design, I've found I don't really need to remove the whole seat to clean it, but it's there if you want it. On my previous soft close seats, fluids would build up under the hinge covers and when cleaning solution got under the covers, it would cause the fluids and cleaning solution to seep out and it's a never ending chore to keep mopping it up.
