The plug is inside the planter on the bottom. Hard to see since black, but all you need is a large pair of pliers, just start turning what looks like a bolt. Not sure if you need to take it all the way out, so once it starts to move, keep going until you can test the plug to see if you want it all the way open or if it will gradually let the water out. The opening is somewhat small, so I practiced with a bowl of water first to see how far I had to open the plug completely I hope this helps. . **Q: Can these planters be painted? If so, what type of paint is suggested?** A: These planters are made of plastic and they do have texture. About the paint depend on where are you planning to have them indoors or outdoors. Choose a paint for plastic. I suggest to paint them with a brush because of the texture i think a brush will work better. **Q: My order arrived with one of the small planter pots cracked. Can you advise how to get a replacement?** A: I would contact customer service - generally if there is a problem, it is taken care of - contact Costco for refund or exchange. These are great planters. I love that the inside has a smaller vessel that gave my artificial boxwood the appearance of extra height. I added rocks to the bottom to keep the planter weighed down (it's not moving, even on windy days), put the boxwood in the inner planter, and secured it on all sides with rocks. I absolutely love these. The curb appeal is fantastic and because the planters are tall with the extra insert, by adding the boxwood tree I finally have some privacy.
