The answer is Yes to both. In Landscape orientation you fold over the front cover & lock it into the tabs/slots on the back of the cover. In that mode You can choose a variety of “lean-back” angles. In Portrait orientation you go through the same steps the just rotate the iPad 90 degrees (on edge). It will stand absolutely vertical in that mode. The only way to get it to “lean back” any in Portrait mode is to leave the front cover loose (not locked into the slots). You’ll see the corners of the front cover has been “clipped.” By tilting the iPad back with the cover extended behind you can tilt it back about 15-30 degrees.
