It is true, the instructions do not have any mention of where the battery is to be inserted and the mic itself didn't have any exterior markings showing battery placement. Basically, the battery pack is located on the opposite side of the mic controls (power, on/off/volume and echo). It runs the entire length of the handle underneath the cubed shape with the 4 speaker sides. You can see the seam if you hold the handle on its side.n To open it, I put the mic on a dishtowel (control side down) and used a plastic gripper (intended for opening tight jars) to push down and slide the compartment away from the speaker area - towards what would be the bottom of the microphone. It was opened in a few seconds, battery inserted and tested.
