It is the off white stiff fabric. You must count the squares when you do the embroidery. I found it very difficult to do. I have done cross stitch before but this was confusing. Didn't help that the instructions were vague and poorly translated. **Q: Does this print have a lot of half stitches?** A: There are no half stitches. I just finished mine...the stitches are very small and sometimes the color codes are a little off. I also changed the white tree leaves to an olive green which made more sense to me. Also added back stitching to house and barn. Beautiful! **Q: Other than thread count what is the difference between 11ct & 14ct?
