The center of the spiral was hollow and always spit out what looked like a noodle (think spaghetti) of potato. This slicer has a solid spiral with a slightly sharper point. I found that I needed to place extra pressure on the slicer to get it to engage. The cutting edge is very sharp and you need to be mindful of your digits when using it.
