Review: Nice low bandpass. - I have an Alinco DX-SR8T connected to a Solarcon A99; not the best of antennas but it does what it does. Obviously I mostly just listen giving my setup although I do have a Bearcat 980SSB that I hook up from time-to time to play on 11 meters. In my area I have issues with noise and a cyclic buzz that I can't find that only comes across the A99 and only when my Alinco or Bearcat is connected. It is on no other radios so it has me stumped. After weeks of trial and error, asking questions to more experienced folks, killing the power to my house and running my radio from a battery pack, I've determined it's an external source I'll probably have to live with. After looking at independent testing, I saw this bandpass really dropped frequencies starting about and going above 35 khz so I took a chance. Although it did not eliminate the buzz issue I'm having, placing this inline with my coax really reduced noise levels I wasn't aware I had and cleaned up the audio. The buzz is more manageable so I can now listen a bit better to weak stations with the squelch turned down. The buzz is still prevalent but this bandpass 'weakened' the noise. It made a definite improvement in my system and I'm contemplating buying another. This being the first low bandpass unit I've used, I can't provide any comparisons but I feel it was well worth the asking price and it just looks nice sitting on my desk.
