Unlike LED's, the short arm of the receiver is attached to the cathode (positive) side of the circuit. **Q: All the clear ir led's are emitting white light. are these supposed to generate visible light?** A: I have noticed any visible light from the clear bulbs. I have never looked in the dark at the output. **Q: Is there a datasheet for these two parts?** A: No. **Q: Is the receiver a photo diode, photo transistor or photo resistor? It sounds like a photo transistor, but just learning distinction.** A: Fairly certain (90%) that it is a photo diode. If ur multi-meter has a diode function, u should be able to see a forward voltage drop of around .7v when forward biased. Since most of them was wasted and throw away,or I’d be sending them back. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked as expected *by S***C on 3 January 2021* Using these as sensors with my model railroad to determine when a train is passing a specific point. These are used to trigger electronic circuits to control actions like crossing signals and gates. The transmitter (clear) and receiver (black) work best when placed on opposite sides of the track. They can also be placed under the tracks pointing up, and angled slightly toward each other. When the train breaks the beam, the circuit turns on a small small relay that controls the signals. Can also be used to control lights on a control panel to indicate when hidden tracks are occupied. Only complaint - on the photo sensor (black) it wasn’t clear which side is cathode / anode. After experimentation, it appears to be the opposite of standard protocol for LEDs.
