This one gets my highest rating so far for the following reasons: 1: It does not leave black markings on my gloves, dough, or the parchment paper I use for pressing. Some of the cast iron presses without this feature actually begin to create metal shavings in this area, which is not something you want happening around your food. I call them pre-smash burgers I use 1/8 thickness... a few things to note: 1) griddles and pans only, the patties are too thin to survive on a bbq grill unless you use a griddle plate 2) I use parchment squares to smash the burgers so as not to get the press dirty. 3) you can cook them fresh but I personally freeze them. I first put them on a baking sheet then once stiff I put them in a freezer bag. 4) you can make them thicker but that won't be a "smash burger" anymore, would it? **Q: Did anyone receive instructions with this?** A: Just the ones on the product description page on Amazon. No printed instructions with it. However, the online instructions were good **Q: Anyone have problems with peeling paint?** A: Mine was purchased used and stated in the description to be in very good condition; however, the paint had already started to come off. I returned it. I purchased a cheaper, non-adjustable press and it has the same problem; however, not on the dough press area so I am still keeping it. **Q: Anyone tried this with cookie dough? I have a bad wrist, and rolling cold hard cookie dough is hard for me. But dough sheeters are so expensive!** A: Yes I believe it would work but the dough it will compress will only be slightly smaller than the diameter of press so 8" approx. While the seller did not solve the problem, they did reach out, and I was able to solve the problem myself by replacing the bearing with five washers (see photo): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R26S9W7/ Not a perfect fit, not sure if they roll or just allow the handle to slide, but they hold up way better than the original bearing. The final piece of this puzzle for me was to order two eight inch silicon mats: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08V58RX65/ The fixed bearing and the mats have turned this adjustable tortilla press into cracker factory! Before the mats the crackers were a little thick with the smallest spacers. The mats produce perfect thin crackers, and are way easier to roll crackers off of than parchment paper, plus they are reusable and the perfect size.
