Review: Finally a pirate play set kids will love! - This was a birthday present for a seven-year-old boy. He loved it! And moreover, I was extremely impressed with the quality of the pieces. There are about 10 pirates in various costumes and carrying various weapons and they are all posed in very detailed positions and painted very realistically with detailed face expressions.. There’s a small canon that actually shoots miniature plastic cannon balls, very well thought out! There is a rowboat and a pirate ship and the row boat has slots so you can stand a pirate up in the boat. It’s these details that make a toy like this more engaging for a child. The pirate ship has lots of detail as well and there is a treasure chest with gold in it that actually opens up. It is it a never ending source of frustration when toy makers include containers in play kits that don’t open! The first thing a child wants to do is see what’s inside. All in all, I have played with hundreds of toys with my niece and nephew and this one seems the most user-friendly and conducive to imaginative play. I will let you know how it holds up over time. But as a self-contained game (it comes in its own case too) I think the pieces will all stay together and create hours of fun for my nephew. I couldn’t find anything I didn’t like about this pirate set. Therefore I am giving it five stars. It was an excellent price point too.

It certainly makes this adult happy! There is some assembly required straight out of the box: the rowboat needs its seats, oars, and rudder installed; the ship must have her mast stepped (but the mast, sails, and shrouds all come pre-rigged, it’s literally popping it into the hull); and the tree/shrub need their foliage attached. There are no instructions, but a little bit of patience and poking will yield the solution. Everything does fit back into the box after assembly, but you do have to get a little creative. The ship only fits if you put her in sideways; the masts are too tall for the box otherwise. Everything else goes in like a game of Tetris. Overall this set is adorable, well-made, and should provide hours of fun for kids and kids-at-heart!

**Q: What are the dimensions (width and depth) of the 6" long smaller boat?**
A: Maybe it is an inch deep at most, and width about 2.5". I'm guessing this to be close because the birthday groom kept the pieces that were on his cake - see cake photo.

**Q: What is the shark supposed to do? Fins seem like they have something to do with it, but moving them does nothing.**
A: When you push the fin in the shark eyes light up and it makes an Ocean noise.

**Q: can you put in the bathtub ?**
A: Funny you should ask this question . . . this is exactly what my grandson did as soon as he was given them.  My son reports that he loves this set.  It makes a perfect bathtub toy!

**Q: How tall are the pirates?**
A: Pirates measure 3 inches tall
