I started wearing ear plugs in 2019 after reading that wind noise-- even with a full-face helmet-- causes long-term high-frequency hearing loss. I quickly became accustomed to wearing ear plugs and found that I am far less fatigued on long touring rides! I never realized just how tiring it is to hear all that wind noise. They are comfortable and stay in place (I sometimes forget that I'm wearing them) and are not affected by my helmet. Inserting them in my ears can be a bit annoying. Wearing them for extended periods of time (4+ hours) can be a bit uncomfortable, but it's never caused me any serious issues. They do reduce the noise getting to my ears quite well though- exactly what I needed them to do. Plus, the little aluminum carrying case is quite handy since it's got a small chain and clasp which I use to secure it on one of the zippers inside my riding jacket. As a result, I can't forget my hearing protection, and I don't have to worry about losing it.
