However, it's accurate only if you use it in 3-5 measuring points and keep consistent with these points. **Q: How does this compare with the accu-measure 3000? can you also read this one yourself? (the accu clicks into place so you can read it yourself).** A: It does not click into place. However, I would purchase this over the accu-measure because the pinches are more consistent since it is spring- loaded and the accu-measure is not. I was thoroughly impressed with this caliper and for the price point, very comparable to high-end metal calipers. **Q: Could this be used to measure the guage or thickness of a material like metal, or a ceramic mug?** A: No. It is large and un-precise. Unlike the cheaper and shorter plastic calipers these actually have a decently accurate dial on the back and the pincher style makes it much easier to take measurements in patients with lower body fat.
