These doors originally had what I believe is called a "ball catch" latching system, but in every location of the house that had these awful latches the ball eventually gets pushed out of the retaining doodad and simply flies out of the latch along with the spring that sits below it. Once this ball catch is gone, these doors will not remain closed when the air conditioning comes on or if some other door in the house is opened or closed and causes a slight vacuum. We also keep our two dogs in this bathroom, and so for a while we just put various objects in front of the doors to try and keep them closed. We absolutely had to find a better solution, and now we have!In our case, we have a small toy chihuahua and a larger chihuahua who is more the size of an overweight terrier (you could not fit this 2nd dog in a good sized piece of luggage much less a purse, let's just say). The reason this stopper was an amazing solution is that, on the carpet, we can flip over the stopper to the rounded metal side, and even the toy sized dog can push the door open to visit us, while also understanding the door is being kept closed (like at night, so she does not wander). On the carpet flipped onto the metal side, the doors will not open from the A/C coming on, but gentle force from the animals as well as us sliding them out of the way with our foot (again, on carpet) allows us to easily open the door when needed, and to just slide it back into place with our foot when we exit the bathroom again.Flip the stopper over to put the rubber side on the carpet, and the toy dog cannot open the door at all. We were concerned about the animals in emergency situations, and so the larger dog is able to press against the door repeatedly and ultimately "scoot" the door open enough so the animals could leave if they absolutely had to. This gave us a good feeling of holding them in while not trapping them completely... make sense? The rubber side of the stopper gives an excellent grip, and as others have said the round design still allows you to 'kick' it into place by rolling it with your foot. The rubber ring around the top juts out slightly to keep the metal away from your door or wall, and does not cause any damage to the doors nor leave any marks on the white paint.It's been an unexpectedly magnificent solution for our needs. I've provided a video of how we are using our stopper. Perfect weight, perfect design, and the price these typically are sold at made it the perfect solution for us all around. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Didn't hold up as expected. *by O***M on Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2018* Initially, I really liked these door stoppers. Since our doors have pretty high gaps from the floor, these worked well. I bought 4 of them. They are pretty heavy so our dogs or the wind won't move the doors. The rubber bottom keeps the stopper in place. I also liked the slick design. However, after having them for a number of months the rubber bummer around the top (the part that makes contact with the door) started to dry out and eventually broke off. As well, the stainless steel started to pit. I use these in the house so this should not have happened. I am still using them but not happy that they didn't last. They were exactly as I needed them to function and if the rubber and finish had lasted I would have given it 5 stars.
