Este kit es el primero de la serie didáctica de Model Shipways. A pesar de que en teoría constituye un proyecto simple para un principiante, el bote en sí es un tema fascinante.Así sin mayores adiciones, es el mítico bote de pesca que se apilaba a bordo de las goletas de los Grandes Bancos, y que fue inmortalizado por Winslow Homer.Pero yendo mas allá del kit, se entera uno que tradicionalmente los pescadores lo podían equipar con un humilde aparejo de vela tarquina, timoneando con uno de los remos.Ahora bien, indagando un poco más, se entera uno que un astillero en Lunenburg en Nova Scotia (hogar de la legendaria Bluenose) actualmente hace una versión de este dory adecuado especialmente para el veleo: equipado con vela cangreja y vela de estay a la genovesa, orza móvil y timón.Agregando estos "pequeños" detalles, de pronto este kit, supuestamente básico, se vuelve mucho más interesante, con una silueta singularmente atractiva.Ahora sí: se puede optar por hacer el dory de pesca tradicional, tal vez detallándolo con los implementos del oficio; o bien lanzarse a hacer la versión deportiva, que de cualquier manera se encuadra dentro de la antigua tradición de los astilleros de Lunenburg.
