Review: Modified/Retrofitted existing Fender Accoustic-electric - This thing sounds great for the money. - I had an roughly 2008 Fender acoustic/electric (Pre-Fischman model) no frills, no tuner, very basic acoustic-electric dreadnought . I wanted to upgrade the electronics to get some additional sound quality and a built in tuner. I came across this product in my search and after much reading decided to give it a go. The control box was significantly larger than my original controller (not really surprising). I used my existing fender piezoelectric in the bridge instead of the included. The plug size was the same and seems to work perfectly. The internal mic does only plug into the inside control box with the standard (headphone style) plug and turns loosely inside the guitar so be sure to tie it down somehow so it does not move around inside the guitar as it is VERY sensitive and would make an enormous sound if it struck the body. I also modified my install as my guitar already had a guitar jack and battery port. So I opted to bypass the cheap feeling clunky combination battery/output jack box. The display and LED's are sickeningly bright (a common problem in cheap electronics) but it does not affect the wonderful sound this unit produces. The blend between Piezo and Mic are simply a game changer. My only 2 negative points about the controller... #1 way to bright light and display (for a dark room but probably great outside in the park) #2 you have to cycle thru multiple button presses after you turn the tuner on in order to reach Auto Guitar (annoying since this is built into a guitar why is that not default??). Overall I love the sound and feel this was well worth the price for what I needed.
Review: Take your time! - I replaced a dead B Band preamp in my Washburn classical guitar. I was able to use the same cut out but had to enlarge it quite a bit. I was able to match the contour of the guitar pretty well. I made a template and used painter's tape to protect the finish. I tried a Dremel tool to enlarge the opening but that was slow and dusty with a cut off disc. I ended up using a quality variable speed jigsaw (think yellow and black) with a fine tooth blade. The painter's tape prevents splintering of the wood. I cut to the inside of the line on the template and finished up with a sanding block and files. It was a tight fit but there isn't much room for error so better safe than sorry. The piezo that came with the preamp was thick and short. I tried to order something flatter and longer but when it arrived it was about the same length as the one I already had so I returned it. I tried another one but it was dead. I finally ended up using the original one that came with the preamp. I had to modify the saddle a lot and drill another hole in the bridge in order to fit the pickup correctly under the strings and route the cable to the preamp. The battery compartment and inputs required enlarging the opening that was already there. I didn't have any options about where to place this component because of the opening that was already there. This must be placed with the contour of the guitar body. Once everything was installed I plugged in and tested it. The piezo alone is very plucky. Blended with the mic it's actually pretty nice. The tuner seems to be functional but kinda like "nothing, nothing, then sharp, then nothing, then flat. The power button turns off the light and tuner but the the pickup and controls still work with the power off. I assume this means the battery is activated by inserting the plug into the input jack. (So be sure to unplug the cable or you'll drain the battery.) Over all I don't regret doing this project but it is not something you want to attempt unless you are confident in your skills. Cutting openings in a quality instrument is not for the faint of heart or novice. This preamp and pickup kit is inexpensive and that is appealing but I was apprehensive about the quality. Time will tell about the long term quality but it looks good and with some tweaking, it actually sounds good. It would be easier to install if they provided a template and if the piezo pickup wasn't so thick. I had to modify the saddle quite a bit. I notched the saddle to accommodate the pickup rather than sanding the saddle all the way because that would have made the saddle unstable in the slot. Good luck with your installation. I think you might be happy with the sound.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are there instructions regarding the installation of this product?**
A: LOL no. If you don’t understand how to install, Look it up on YouTube, or don’t attempt yourself. Try a soundhole pickup instead which can easily be installed by a novice.

**Q: I have a fender with a fisher now that doesn't work. can i change it out with this one ?**
A: check the dimensions of the fisher against the Kmise if they are the same then I would say yes

**Q: How much leeway is there in selecting the EQ position in terms of closer to or further from the neck?**
A: If I am understanding your question, you can pretty much position the EQ, at your discretion...The EQ has a slight curve on the mounting plate, allowing you to move EQ forward or backward to match the, curvature of your guitar...the guitars curvature would be more of a factor in the placement of the EQ...

**Q: No matter what I do, the unit stays in tuner mode. No instructions, how do I get out of tuner mode?**
A: Get rid of it. These tuners are a piece of garbage. First one I got the volume knob stop working. The replacement just didn't work. Got my money back. Still waiting for another alternative unfortunately.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice piece of hardware.
*by M***H on April 25, 2021*

This is a very cool electronic amplification for an acoustic guitar, especially for the money. Installation is NOT for beginners as one must deal with many concepts of contour, alignment, wiring, etc. But, after thinking it through, I found it pretty straightforward. The sound is very good and the tuner works great. Looking forward to more testing and hope it does not give up any ghosts as complained by others. Probably people that work for Fishman who charge hundreds of dollars for essentially the same hardware. BTW. and true to me, I took it apart to see the innards. Fairly clean circuit boards logically placed. Had initial trepidations about the 2nd extra large hole, but love the high/low impedance inputs and battery combo. The mic mix is also very cool. Nice work, my Chinese friends. Let's hope our governments stop screwing with our relations. My Chinese friends are very nice and we, Americans, get along very well on that basis. Don't let the politicians goaded by the gloabalists create divisiveness to try and control us.
