## Questions & Answers

**Q: Whats the difference in quick fill and no quick fill when getting a gravity fill hatch?**
A: Look closer at the photo showing the quick fill device when you click on that option. There you see a hose and a brass end fitting where you then screw your hose directly onto the brass fitting similar to attaching your hose to a faucet or sprayer etc. Now this allows you to fill your tank faster because your hose or city water hose has a lot of pressure. The down side to this that I find as a negative is you can all to easily over fill your fresh water tank especially your older RV's and end up flooding your RV wall and flooring around the tank. I am in the midst of a long repair job to past owners neglect of filling their fresh tank and not running their air intake hose to the small screen air outlet you see on this fill hatch. I bought the RV in Feb. Seller was smart to sell when Temps in NW USA were below freezing to mask and hide the mildew scent. He did a lot of hide the damage techniques as will as lay down hard flooring but as soon as it was warming up this spring oh my gosh. I do not recommend anyone using the so called quick fill set up. And always check your fresh water tank plumbing to insure all the hoses including the air release and intake is connected properly. If however you do want the quick fill system I recommend using a reliable water meter so you can stop the fill about 5% maybe even 10% before it's full. This also depends on if you start with an empty water tank or partially full. Also the sensors for fill are not always reliable too so just use common sense. Spend a minute or two longer and pay attention to filling the tank. Too bad there's no way to see how full your tanks are from outside the RV via a viewing window. But no such thing exists.

**Q: What is the outside diameter of the barbed end? It says it fits 1.25" - 1.5" hose but that is a big variation**
A: The barbed end is stepped. The outer end is 1.25 diameter, then it steps up to 1.5 diameter. Check out the photo closeup, it does show both diameters on the barbed end.

**Q: The pic shows it has a 4 3/4 diameter and bottom description states it has 4.5 diameter. Which one is it?**
A: My rec-pro round fill hatch is 4 3/4 in. outside diameter, with a 3 1/2 in. mounting hole.

**Q: Does the cap make a water tight seal to prevent leaking when water sloshes up to it?**
A: The most important detail that prevents leaking from your fresh water tank is the air intake hose. YOU MUST make sure at all times the air hose is attached firmly to the intake on this or any other water inlet to the tank. I'm in the process of cleaning and repairing damage done to a 22 year old class B+ RV that people had no insight or understanding that the water sloshed all over and under the tank's bay was coming out of the loose air intake. This was probably years of neglect. And all preventable. To add a little more insult to the problem the intake hose was left to wiggle about and it developed black mold that now black mold is in the bottom of the fresh water tank inside the tank. So all lines and tank has to be sanitized and best to do it multiple times. Also the tank had to be removed causing all sensors to be cut to pull it out. The sensor wires I left 4-5 inches on the tank so it can be re-wired however the wires it needs to attach to are difficult to re-attach due to poor wiring and need to repair rotted wood the electric box and wires are run under and into. I've repaired all of that. If you have water in the wall around your tank and it runs up the wall and above the water intake like this item is check for window leaks or suspect window leaks or leaks starting at the roof to side seams. That was another problem I'm now in the process of fixing. I thought I was done only to discover the lower wall below the window was rotting and damp behind the vinyl wall lamination. Today I'm spreading wood hardener over all the rotted wood areas that have been cleaned and dried and scraped and moldicide treatments over a 2 week process and now it's time for rebuilding with the wood hardener first. Then any gashes or low points due to damage and scraping both will get filled in with wood bondo filler they make that brand for wood. And once that's dry and sanded smooth the new heavy duty wall vinyl will be put on and where there may be a seam where it meets the dry original good wall paper I'll put by screw or nail a trim piece. Looking at going with a wood piece and maybe screws so anyone in the future may want to change it out. Keep it as simple and as esthetic as possible so no ones the wiser. This is what the past owner should have done that passed this mess on to me instead of laying down hard flooring and placing bits of this and that around to COVER up the damage from inspection at night at below freezing temps. I actually did detect mildew and commented but the lady with me and her 40 year old son both claimed they could not smell it either along with the seller. I drove it 550 miles home and sure enough my husband also claimed he could not smell it. By then it was driving me crazy but as soon as the outdoor temps hit higher 50's everyone else could smell it too. I quickly located the tank and air hose source. Cleaned it all up only to smell lighter scent of mildew. WHAT? NO WAY I thought I'd checked it all. But sure enough in the opposite dinette bay and storage area was damage going up and into the wall. Clearly tracked it to the left side corner of a large window. And when working on that eventually tracked it to the other corner of the window now also over the bay I had spent two weeks repairing. So in between no wall damage. So removed as best I could all wall paper from an even cut line below and set up fans to dry it out. We are in a rainy period in NW MT so humidity isn't helping. I'm running fans 24/7 basically. I also had put in a fancy MaxxAir Deluxe in and out fan in the coach so am running it at 50% day and night too. Lucky this fan can be open and running when it's raining. All of this helps. The wood filler needs good ventilation to apply. Due to being in such an enclosed area with fans or not I'm working in small sections at a time. These need to be treated 4-7 layers of hardener. You work quick as it can dry in just a few minutes. Throw away brushes are recommended so this is not for the faint of heart.
