The glaze is perfectly smooth--no snagging whatsoever. It's deep enough for the ball of yarn not to jump the side and run away while I'm stitching, which did happen on occasion when I worked from an ordinary kitchen bowl. Of course the cut-out yarn guide helps with that, too. But more than anything else, I love that this practical, useful item is in itself a work of art. The colors are stunning and elegant. I'm a bit of a neat-freak, but I have no qualms about just leaving the bowl sitting on my coffee table or counter when I'm not actively stitching.
