The Controls are tight and responsive, and don't hinder the player's ability to kick some bad guy (or in some cases good guy) butt. There are five game modes. Story, Duel, World Tournament, Practice, and The Legend of Hercule.Story mode allows you to play through the story of Dragon Ball Z, from the Sayian Saga to the Android Saga. When the player finishes the last battle with Cell, they can go back to story mode and replay their favorite battles again, only this time there will be new chapters unlocked. Some of these include alternate endings. Two of them are nightmare scenarios, where we see what would have happened if Goku failed to stop Vegeta and Freiza. The last one is a hilarious what if story, where we see what could have happened if Cell's plan to absorb 17 and 18 hadn't gone quite as planned. Some of the battles can get pretty hard, but give sweet rewards upon completion, more on that later.Duel: The ever popular Vs. Mode. I mean, what's a fighting game without a versus mode? Players can take on friends, computers, or even watch the computer slug it out.World Tournament: The World Tournament puts the player into a winner takes all tournament (hence the name) There are three difficulty settings: Novice, Adept, and Advanced. Novice is the easiest and has three matches. Adept is the normal difficulty and has five matches. Advanced is the hardest and has a whopping seven matches. This is the only way to make money in the game. While the higher difficulties may make you want to throw your controller down, they are worth completing. At the start, only novice is available. To Unlock adept, the player must finish Novice AND the story mode, then purchase it at the store (more on that later) Then for advanced, complete adept and then buy Advanced at the store.Practice: Here, the player can brush up on their skills and practice Super moves, all while deciding if the enemy should fight back or not.Legend of Hercule: A hilarious mode where the player gets to relive what the public in DBZ thinks happened during the Cell games. If you've watched the anime, this will make more sense.Unlike the PS2 version, the graphics on the Gamecube were cel shaded, and my gosh does it look great. The colors are bright and vibrant, and everyone looks like they should.Of course, what is Dragon Ball Anythting without capsules? The Player can purchase and equip capsules to the characters to give them advantages in battle. To use your costume created character, you just have to use the Custom option after selecting your character. The capsules are color coded, and can even be traded with friends, but some can't be traded. Green Capsules are not actual moves, but give the player benefits in battle. Blue Capsules are your typical key blasts, while red capsules are your devastating super moves.The cut scenes, while awesome, can be really goofy, even when they're not trying to be, and the music in the game works well, always fitting the scene dead on.But the game does have a few flaws and goofs, such as a few typos in the subtitles, as well as the fact that the AI can get super cheap. There are times they can knock you down, and your character will lay there for a while. Your enemies will then whale on you and you can't do anything to stop them. This has caused me more than my fair share of cheap losses. They can also block entire combos, thus cancelling a super move and wasting precious Ki (the energy needed to use your super moves). This does not stop the game from being fun.If you're a fan of Dragon Ball Z or fighting games, I recommend this game.
