So, you have to match the kind of plastic you are welding to the kind of rod to weld it with. I had a compass (one that reads out on my dashboard display) that mounted below the rearview mirror of my car which had a tab on one side break off and it would not stay in place. He asked plenty of questions, provided explanations, and had me send pictures of the item I wanted to repair. Then he talked with John, who came in later, to get his opinion. Between the both of them, they provided me with the information I needed to make the necessary repair. The whole project did not go exactly as expected. The tab I welded on it was much too large and not exactly in the right place, so it broke off as I was trying to reattach it. As this was a very tiny repair, coupled with my lack of experience/skills with plastic welding, I was not really surprised. However, what I did must have been enough after the piece broke off, what was left seems to do. At any rate, the compass has been in my car for over a week now, and it isn’t dangling by the electrical connecting cord. In the end, I saved at least $50 purchasing a new compass and I found a company that backs its product with excellent customer service.
