## Description

Arrowroot is an easily digested starch extracted from the roots of the arrowroot plant, maranta arundinacea. The starch is used as a thickener in many foods such as puddings and sauces, and is also used in cookies and other baked goods. Arrowroot starch is also gluten free. It’s an excellent substitute for cornstarch and flour as a thickening agent in sauces, gravies, pie fillings, and puddings. Arrow root starch is neutral tasting and tolerates acidic ingredients, such as citrus. The starch also freezes well and dissolves well at lower temperatures.

A: According to Cooks, Arrowroot powder=arrowroot starch=arrowroot flour.  It is gluten-free and non-GMO.  It has been used for 7,000 years and was a staple of the Caribbean Arawak people. Pure arrowroot is a light powder, odorless when dry.   It was used to draw out poison from arrow wounds thus, is the likely source of it's name.   Obtained from the roots of tropical plants; Maranta arundinacea. Check Wikapedia for more information.
