The zipper pocket is a neat feature. You could carry a credit card or chapstick or key without worrying about it falling out. The fingertips do allow you to use your phone, so your hands can stay nice & warm. The only thing I would note is we purchased a medium for my large 11 year old son and they were slightly big on him. It says it fits most 11-15 year olds. I think maybe 13 and up is a better guide.
