There is a small button beside the lock cylinder. Press and hold the button to set the number combination you want, and then release it. The password setting is completed, **Q: Is someone able to get around the lock by simply cutting the band? What is the band made of and is it easy to cut?** A: The band is thin woven nylon. It could easily be cut with a sharp instrument. Much thinner than a seatbelt. I think this is more to keep toddlers or those with cognitive issues from access not really as a "security" measure **Q: Since it’s adjustable how do you keep the kids from just adjusting it so they can open and slip their hands in?** A: Once the lock is placed on the cabinet or refrigerator, it cannot be adjusted unless it is removed .
