Review: Good thermometers - Much better than some other non-electronic thermometers that I tried. Keep (and use) the plastic shaker that comes with them. It still takes some vigorous shaking, but the plastic handle does make it easier to shake down the liquid inside.
Review: A must have!!! Great product!!! - I have a disabled daughter who has had several brain surgeries in the past and has a temperature gauge problem in her brain where her thalamus does not properly regulate her temperature. I have purchased tons of the expensive easy to read thermometers over the years and over and over again, they have failed and they are inaccurate. When all else fails, go to what works!!! I purchased 2 of these mercury thermometers and they are so accurate and work well. I will be purchasing them from now on as I have given up on all the other expensive ones that seem to give us a different temperature with every read!!!

**Q: has anyone compared accuracy to digial thermometers? I get a higher temp on vicks digial**
A: In searching the medical literature, it appears as if this type of thermometer (i.e. a "galinstan thermometer" or GT ) is the most accurate.  The tradeoff is speed.  Digital thermometers (DT) are much faster, and still reasonably accurate whereas the GT takes longer to get a measurement but is considered the most accurate of the alternatives.

**Q: Is there a trick to shaking it down? Lots of people say they can’t do it and I’m having the same problem.**
A: There is a flipper to shake it down in the package. If you use it, you can.

**Q: Can the Thermometer be used recctally as well?**
A: I don't think so  the head is small unlike a rectal thermometer that has a large head

**Q: In the old fashioned the temperature line was silver or red, what color is this line supposed to be?**
A: It's similar color as mercury (old-fashioned)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As good as can be expected from a glass thermometer

I agree with other reviewers that those who complain are probably revealing their inexperience with glass thermometers. I bought the two pack, and their readings are consistent with each other, and they yield temperature readings very close to my better digital thermometers. You need to shake down the liquid before taking a reading. The liquid in this thermometer is significantly more difficult to shake down than the old mercury thermometers, I presume because mercury is much more dense than this liquid. One reader said it works to put it in a sock and swinging it rapidly. Also, they are fairly slow. It takes 2 or 3 minutes to get a good reading. The drawbacks are simply due to the nature of glass thermometers. However, the fact that they don't need batteries means they will always work. The batteries in digital thermometers seem to give out at the most inopportune times, so it's really nice to have a glass thermometer handy as a backup. Note: Amazon's "Rate Features" section for this thermometer had "Accuracy," (which is fine), and "Warmth," and "Thickness," (which is just plain weird).
