I tried two others before this with minimal success: hertzko- purple one thats USB charged- weak (no torque) and took forever to get through my dogs tough nails and the Wahl one thats blue- just terrible. would not turn on at first and after it got working, wouldnt even tighten over the metal grinder bit i bought.As you can see, the metal grinder bit i use fit right in this one. it tightened down well and spun up on the first try. It is not too loud (hard to measure this- the hertzko one was very quiet, like a hum, and the Wahl was was loud, almost like an electric drill). this one falls in the middle, but definitely on the quieter side. It has a great amount of torque (i dont press it hard enough to stop it), which was a problem with the hertzko.When using, i ground down 16 out of 18 nails my dog has (five on each front paw, four each on the rears), before i felt any warmth at all from the unit. Even then, i finished them all without it getting hot. it only got a little bit warm, which is to be expected (my hand warmth plus the machine itself- very impressive). the hertzko got very warm (almost hot) and the Wahl didnt get anything because it sucked.as you can see from the pics, the unit looks good and worked well with after market bits (pimp my nail grinder). my dogs nails are nice and trimmed (yea i know theyre still long, she was neglected when we got her and they were SUPER long and burly. enough that her toe bones are deformed and they would all click because she was walking on them constantly. we're slowly working them down because the quick will slowly retract as we trim them but its a long process), and she is a happy pup once again after her spa treatment.The timing for doing all 18 nails is very good as well. as this thing has power and torque (only one speed setting but its more than enough), i was able to get through 1.5 to 2 nails per slather of peanut butter into her kong for distraction. overall doing all 18 took about 40 minutes (great when compared to the hertzko which took 1.5 to 2 hours for all, and the Wahl, which took infinity minutes because of it sucking so hard).If youre looking for a grinder, this one worked out well for me and i would recommend you take the chance on it. as we all know, reviews are an individual perspective as we all have different metrics for success, but this one worked well on my sweet dumptruck on a dog's nails.My personal metrics were: 1- it turns on, 2- it accepts other bits, 3- it has speed and torque, 4- its not too loud, and 5- it doesnt get too hot. Good luck all! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great grinder, quiet, light-weight. *by E***C on October 14, 2016* I must have read 20 reviews on every nail grinder I found that seemed worthy. I read multiple "Best Nail Grinder" lists and went to many different sites for research. The culmination of this research resulted in my purchase of the Conair Pro Nail Grinder. After using the grinder I'm only mildly OK with the product. It's quiet and does not disturb my dog or seem to cause him distress. He hates to have his nails clipped and I usually have the Vet do them. My dog, charlie, is about 110 lbs and has very, very, very thick long nails. This grinder, even though it has a power cord, is still a bit weak to make much of a dent on his nails. I'm keeping it for my other 2 dogs as they do not have such thick, long nails but I think I'm going to have to do a combination of cutting and grinding for Charlie. I may also look into the Dremel grinder. I didn't purchase it due to the lack of a guard. Even though this grinder was not the perfect one for my situation I feel it's a solid tool, well made, light-weight and the adjustable guard makes it very flexible. So do not hesitate making a purchase of this grinder. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very quiet and just powerful enough *by L***. on August 26, 2020* A couple of years ago, I bought a very quiet off-brand cordless roto trimmer with a diamond drum since my dog was afraid of the noisy, high-pitched buzz of my Dremel (both corded and cordless). The Dremel took my dog's thick nails down in no time but the poor guy just hated the noise. I loved how quiet the off-brand unit was but it really was too wimpy to get the job done and I preferred the sanding drums to it's barely abrasive diamond drum. I was having to revert to clippers which inevitably, on occasion, would cut too close if my dog flinched. I came across this Con-Air trimmer and I figured being corded, it would generate more power and I liked the reviews I read that said it was very quiet. It is indeed very quiet for a corded roto trimmer. It came with a couple of stone wheels and several sanding drums. It works very nicely. It only has one speed - you turn it on and turn it off. The RPM speed is low enough to keep the motor from creating that high-pitched buzz my dog hates but enough to generate the power it needs to effectively grind the nails. At first, I was wishing it had more power because, as I said before, my dog has very thick, hard nails. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realize that it is really doing the job it is designed to do and staying quiet enough to let my dog relax. I guess at first, I missed the power to buzz those nails down in mere seconds but that was for my convenience. The priority here is my dog and it is worth it to me to take a little more time knowing he is totally cool with the whole process. I will say, based on past experience, that I remove the adjustable cover. I think the cover is one of the better one's I've seen but I need that whole drum exposed to handle my dogs thick nails. And another thing that I love is the generously long cord, 8' cord. I know cordless is convenient but I haven't seen one yet that has the power needed and is quiet enough.
