The mugs have a strong chemical odor. I understand that this to be the case with others who ordered and when we reached out to the company, we were assured that it would go away. At this point, all we have done is washed them with soap and water and we are noticing that one of them leaks at the bottom. So, if you are planning to use them to actually drink out of, I'd think twice about buying this product. You can easily look up online how to cure it and there are numerous videos showing you easy ways to do just that. The horns are already waxed but if you would like, you can buy some beeswax and coat it again, that is up to you. Besides the very faint smell, the mug is absolutely beautiful! I bought one for me and one for my mom for mothers days and we are both in love with these! If you are looking for a good quality product for a decent price, THIS is the one!
