The coffee pot is not crafted in a way that you can use a filter!!! Somehow it builds pressure and will burst out of the top, spraying boiling coffee in all directions. We discovered this while camping, and in a small place it could've been worse than just a mess, had anyone been in front of the stove. Works fine without filters. Yes some grounds get into the coffee but letting it rest a few minutes after perking and pouring slowly, very few end up in your cup.
