This means you have to be able to make a magnet stick to the cooking surface. Aluminum or anodized aluminum does not have this property. Some aluminum pans will have a steel disc layer in the base which makes induction possible. This particular item is not induction compatible. **Q: Are these black or dark blue?** A: Under a bright white light (as in an led) the pan appears to be dark blue. Under normal lighting conditions, it gives a black appearance. **Q: What does the bottom look like?** A: The bottom looks like anodized Al. Back like the rest of the pan, but less shiney than the cooking surface. It cleans very easily and may be non-stick as well. **Q: Most ceramic i've used (including from germany) are not metal utensil safe. what's in this to make it safe for metal utensils?** A: I don't think so. I believe it might scratch it.
