It is sturdy and thick and looks nice in my kitchen. The main thing I am not entirely thrilled about it that is pretty heavy and seems like it could break very easily. I won't test that theory on purpose, but knowing the way I am in the kitchen, sooner or later the thing will get hit too hard or dropped and I have a feeling it won't last. I do love that the bottom rubber piece comes off for easy cleaning. Just make sure you rinse it quickly after putting the spoon on it, because as soon as food dries onto it it becomes very difficult to get it off, like most ceramic products. I have an all gas range, which tends to get REALLY hot when I'm baking and using the stove top at the same time. This spoon rest does not get over heated, and the rubber grip on the bottom has not melted (trust me, I've had plenty of melt downs in the past).
