If the lid is up it will cool them off a bit but if the lid is on it keeps them hot..I've left mine on for several hours and haven't had any trouble. The clamshell case is very sturdy. Super easy to clean and carry. I have some minor things I want to mention to the company. Some things I would like to see them do in the future. 1. The stones obviously slide around as theres no little stone divits or slots to put them in. Would be cool to see in future designs. 2. A adustible heat setting. The default is just a bit too hot to start with them right away (I usually take out two stones and let them cool for a minute while massageing then start using them) 3. This one isnt a big deal because you can throw this thing in a cloth reusable grocery bag but a custom case for it would be cool. Like a sleeve cover you would use for a laptop with a carrying strap that hides the chord, maybe a pocket for additional stones or something on it too. Otherwise, its great for the price.
