At first the pedals seemed backwards-whoever heard of rewind on the right and fast forward on the left? But this was easy to change within the Preferences. Then I got sick of rewinding and changed it again to 1-click 5-second rewind, which was also easy to do. I'm not a fast typist, but I would estimate that my transcription speed is almost double what it was before using the pedal. I'm still debating whether to use tap-lock or not, but all of these features are easily configurable. The pedal itself is heavy, which is good because you are going to be banging your foot on it many times every time you use it. It is nicely contoured and easy to find the three different controls (left-center-right). I strongly recommend that you purchase this package rather than the pedal alone. My mom was using an older transcribing machine where you put in a little cassette tape and then type as you play and stop the tape. When her boss switched everything over to emailing her the tracks instead of mailing tapes, she was seriously playing the tracks and recording it onto the tapes and then using her old machine to start her transcribing process. It was seriously aweful! She informed me that her machine broke and she was having a difficult time finding a replacement like her old machine, since newer machines don't allow for cassette tapes anymore. My mom doesn't do well with change and didn't know that she could be saving herself so much more time by just getting a software program instead! I ordered Express Scribe and couldn't be happier with my purchase!! Not only did they give me the software IMMEDIATELY through email after I purchased it, but it was so simple to use!! I was able to show my mom how to use it, and she was elated with how much time she was going to be able to save herself!
