By folding precious metals of different colors and properties under tremendous pressure, a laminated metal is created which is much stronger than each metal on its own. Mokume is extremely difficult to create and takes tremendous skill. The alternating layers of different colored precious metals create a multi color swirl similar to a painting on the metals surface.
